Assigning crew to a booking
Use this tutorial to show boat owners how to assign crew or service partners to a confirmed or completed booking from the booking detail page.

Where it appears — crew assignment is on the booking detail page, inside the right-side booking panel.
When it appears — the Assigned Crew card appears only when the booking status is confirmed or completed.
What it assigns — the owner can assign available staff to the booking slot, including normal charter crew and service-role partners.
After assignment — the booking page refreshes the assigned staff list from the slot assignment endpoint.
Important: If the booking is still awaiting approval, pending, declined, or cancelled, the crew assignment card is not shown.

Empty state — if nobody is assigned, the card says No crew assigned yet.
Assigned person row — each row shows staff name, role, status, and a remove button.
Role badge — the role appears as a small dark navy badge.
Status colour — accepted is green, declined is red, and other states such as pending are amber.
Manage button — the + Manage Crew button opens the assignment modal.

Bottom-sheet layout — the modal appears from the bottom of the page with a dim overlay behind it.
Title — the modal header says Assign Crew.
Close button — the round ✕ button closes the modal without assigning anyone.
Finish & Close — the footer button closes the modal after the owner is done managing crew.

Charter Crew tab — shows normal crew roles, excluding technical service roles.
Service Partners tab — shows technical/service roles such as Marine Detailer, Engineer, Electrician, Shipwright, Plumber, Electronics Tech, Rigger, Diver, and Upholsterer.
Search field — filters by staff name or role.
Already assigned people — staff already assigned to this slot are excluded from the available list.
Inactive staff — inactive staff are not shown in the available list.

Crew assignment modal · Licence eligibility
Licence check — the modal checks the staff member's licences against the boat's required licence and boat length.
Warning banner — ineligible staff show ⚠ Licence insufficient for this vessel.
Disabled look — ineligible staff cards are faded.
Blocked interaction — the row interaction is disabled for ineligible staff.
Safety rule: Do not assign a skipper who does not hold the required licence for the vessel.

What the owner should do: Choose another eligible crew member or update staff licence information before assigning.
Crew assignment modal · Pay offer for this slot
Assign + — clicking Assign opens the pay offer panel for that staff member.
Prefill amount — the amount can prefill from the member default pay rate. If no default exists, it can use the lowest listed menu rate.
Amount field — owner enters the proposed pay amount in AUD.
Pay type — owner selects Per job, Per hour, or Per day.
Their listed rates — if staff has menu items, the modal shows rate hints for reference.

Crew assignment modal · Confirm & Assign
Valid amount required — the Confirm button is disabled if the amount is empty, null, or not a valid number.
Saved data — assignment sends the staff member ID, pay rate, and pay rate type for this booking slot.
First slot — assignment uses the first booking slot ID from the booking detail page.
Refresh after save — after assigning, the page fetches the slot assignments again and updates the Assigned Crew card.
Error message — if assignment fails, the owner sees an alert such as Failed to assign staff.

After success: The assigned staff member appears in the Assigned Crew card with their role and current response status.
Booking detail page · Remove assigned staff
Remove button — each assigned staff row has a small ✕ button.
Delete action — clicking ✕ sends a delete request for that staff-slot assignment.
Local update — after a successful delete, that staff member is removed from the Assigned Crew card immediately.
Error handling — if the delete fails, the owner sees an alert such as Failed to remove staff assignment.

Reminder: Removing a staff member only removes the booking-slot assignment; it does not delete the staff account.
Crew assignment workflow · Step-by-step

Open booking
Go to a confirmed or completed booking detail page.

Click Manage Crew
Use the Assigned Crew card in the right-side panel.

Choose person
Search staff, check eligibility, and click Assign +.
4
Confirm pay
Enter amount, choose pay type, and click Confirm & Assign.
Operational tip: Assign crew early so pending or declined responses can be handled before the charter date.
